Successful GCSE Results 2017

This year has been another extremely successful one for Selby High School, with a fantastic set of results in subjects across the board, with outstanding achievement in English, Maths and Science. A number of students have achieved the new grade 9, and students from all different starting points have made good progress.   Performance in English has been particularly impressive.  Results have significantly improved from last year, with 76% achieving the new standard pass in English.  Outcomes in both Literature and Language are above the national average.

Principal Nick Hinchliffe said, “Students and staff are to be commended for their hard-work and commitment throughout.  The challenge of the new tougher exams in English and Maths has been met head on.  Nationally, only a very small percentage of students will achieve the new grade 9, so we are hugely proud of the 14 grade 9s in English and Maths.   The strong performances across all the other subjects, emphasises the high quality of teaching and learning at Selby High School.  I’d like to pass on my congratulations to all year 11 students who have excelled today.”

A number of subjects have performed well above the national average, and there were outstanding results in all three separate sciences (42% A*/A in Physics), Drama (91% A*-C), French (76% A*-C) and there was a real improvement in Resistant Materials, where an impressive 73% was achieved at A*-C.  Vocational subjects also performed very well.
