Girls & Gadgets

On Thursday 18th December, 10 More Able year 9 and 10 girls attended the Girls & Gadgets event at Teesside University. Designed to raise female involvement in the Computing Industry, students spent time hearing from motivational guest speakers and participating in workshops. In the morning students took part in a Cover Girl workshop which raised awareness of photo editing and airbrushing in the media industry, and also allowed students to gain hands on experience with green screen photographs and photoshop. In the afternoon students completed a workshop on Programming using the Ruby on Rails framework, where they created an online art gallery with a "like" feature. Year 10 student Jacqui Pascoe said "it was a fun day out which gave us a new insight into computing". The day provided an excellent opportunity for students to work with university professionals and students in an inspirational setting.
